Bit late to the party for #endangeredspeciesday, but here’s a lesson in how to outstare a leaf and win 👁 🍃. . Panamanian night monkey in the Darien gap, Panama. These cute suckers live communally in tree holes and take turns to keep watch for predators in the day. Unlike any other monkeys outside their group, they are mostly nocturnal. So little is known about them that population trends are unknown. However, their range is heavily threatened by deforestation and hunting, and they are likely in danger of extinction.

‘Aroma’, Manilla. An ironic name unless the word ‘aroma’ conjures connotations of decaying garbage, dust, sweat and piss. This was supposed to be a temporary housing estate in the 90’s, but after decades of neglect and broken promises, aroma is decidedly still here, and thousands of families are crammed into an area wedged next to the port of manilla. It’s also a dump site. Mention the name to many people and the first words to come out are ‘drugs’, ‘scavengers’, ‘criminals’. What many people miss is that there are tens of thousands of people here, all with their own stories and individual lives and all trying to survive, having been left behind by a city that has moved on.

Not the typical project I’m used to working on. I’m currently in Tondo, Philippines, also known as the dump site of manilla. Literally hundreds of tonnes of trash are dumped in this district daily where local people scrape a living by scavenging recyclable materials to sell and food to eat. I’m currently working with the @purplecommunityfund training and equipping young people, mostly girls, from this community how to shoot films and document life around them with the hope that this will eventually lead to a career or internships, or just an artistic outlet to represent themselves and their world around them with. Currently trying to stay zen like this guy - here’s a lesson on why it pays to take your time sometimes. Arrived at the airport excited for a new project to begin, only to find I’d put my middle name as my surname on the ticket and wasn’t allowed on the flight. No ones fault but my own... After mentally kicking myself for the next 12 hours, I booked new flights in the morning, only to find out 10 minutes later I’d booked them for the wrong month and had a hefty cancellation fee. Again, no ones fault but my own... Sometimes, shit just happens and there are many better things to focus mental energy upon! Happy earth day everyone!!
